Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Serving adults in Texas and Florida

Hi, I’m Benita

I’m so glad you’re here.

If you’ve found your way to my website, chances are you’ve been carrying something heavy for a while.

Maybe you’ve caught yourself asking…

“Why do I keep doing this?”

“Why can’t I seem to change?”

“Why do I keep ending up in the same situations?”

If so…

You’re not alone.

I believe there’s a reason you do the things you do.

The ways you’ve learned to protect yourself didn’t appear by accident. They were intelligent adaptations to difficult experiences. Now we’ll get curious about whether those same strategies are still helping you build the life you want today.

Because understanding creates awareness.

Awareness creates choice.

Choice creates lasting change.

Understanding Before Judgment

Therapy isn’t about finding out what’s “wrong” with you.

It’s about understanding how your experiences shaped you, recognizing the patterns that no longer serve you, and discovering that change becomes possible when your story finally makes sense.

That’s the work we’ll do together.

A Quick Introduction

If you’d like to get a sense of who I am before we meet, I invite you to watch this short introduction. Many clients have said it helped them feel more comfortable reaching out.

What Therapy With Me is Like

Therapy doesn’t have to feel cold or intimidating.

Some sessions will be serious.

Some will be emotional.

Some will leave you thinking,

“I’ve never thought about it like that before.”

And yes…

We’ll probably laugh.

We may have difficult conversations.

Often we’ll do both.

I’ll ask thoughtful questions.

I’ll notice patterns you may not see.

I’ll gently challenge you when it helps you grow.

And sometimes…

I’ll remind you to eat lunch…

…or set a boundary…

…or show yourself the same compassion you so freely offer everyone else.

My job isn’t to tell you how to live your life.

It’s to help you understand yourself well enough that you can become the captain of your own ship.

Real change doesn’t happen because someone tells you what to do.

It happens because you begin seeing yourself differently.

How I Can Help

You don’t have to have everything figured out before reaching out.

Maybe you’re exhausted from anxiety.

Maybe you’re carrying the effects of trauma.

Maybe you’re stuck in relationship patterns that keep repeating.

Maybe life has changed in ways you never expected.

Whatever brought you here, therapy can help you understand yourself more deeply, break free from old patterns, and move forward with greater confidence and clarity.

My Approach To Therapy

No two people—and no two stories—are exactly alike.

That’s why I don’t believe therapy should be one-size-fits-all.

I draw from several evidence-based approaches, but I don’t start by choosing a technique.

I start by getting to know you.

Together, we’ll figure out what fits your personality, your goals, and the way you naturally process the world.

Some clients benefit from learning practical coping skills.

Others need to process trauma.

Many need both.

The approaches below are some of the tools I use. But the most important part of therapy is the relationship we build together.

NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM)

Explore how early survival strategies still shape your relationships, emotions, and sense of self today.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

Rapid trauma processing that removes negative images and feelings associated with the event.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Learn practical tools to identify unhelpful thinking patterns and create healthier ways of responding.

Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping)

A mind-body approach that combines gently tapping with focused attention to reduce emotional distress.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Build psychological flexibility and move toward the life you value, even when difficult thoughts or emotions are present.

Cognitive Restructuring

Identify automatic thoughts, challenge unhelpful beliefs, and develoop more balanced perspectives.

Solution-Focused Therapy

Build on your strengths and focus on practical, achievable steps toward the changes you want.

Mindfullness

Increase awareness of the present moment and respond with greater calm, clarity, and intention.

Why I Love ART

I love Accelerated Resolution Therapy because I’ve experienced its impact personally.

After surviving a serious car accident as a teenager, I struggled with PTSD.

ART was the first approach that gave me lasting relief.

That experience changed my life.

It also shaped the kind of therapist I wanted to become.

Today, one of the most rewarding parts of my work is watching clients arrive feeling anxious or overwhelmed…

…and leave looking lighter, calmer, and often smiling because they finally feel relief.

Watching those transformations reminds me why I love this work.

Professional Background

I believe being an effective therapist means to never stop learning.

Every two years I complete extensive continuing education to stay current with the latest research and evidence-based treatments. Just as importantly, I’ve had the privilege of working with hundreds of adults navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, and major life transitions.

My advanced training includes

  • NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM),
  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and
  • Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/Tapping),

which I integrate with other evidence-based approaches to meet each client’s unique needs.

I’m licensed to provide virtual therapy for adults throughout Texas and Florida and work with many commercial insurance plans.
